Transportation sector CO₂ emissions per capita in the U.S. 2021, by state
Alaska had the highest per capita carbon dioxide emissions from transportation in the United States in 2021. That year, the average resident in Alaska emitted 18.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide (tCO₂/cap). Wyoming followed, with approximately 13 tCO₂/cap. By comparison, Texas, which is the U.S. transportation sector's biggest polluter, produced roughly 7.3 tCO₂/cap in 2021.
